So with Abby's obsession with Paleontology, dinosaurs, and fossils.. we try our best to urge and foster positivity towards what she expresses her desired career path to be; Paleontology.
Emily does a much better ('official job') than I do at this. By thinking about what's going to be required, or what to get her thinking or excited about in an official capacity. Aside from me just trying to carry her excitement through and have her hold consistency to push her dream forward with hard work and dedication toward that goal. Together I think we work well, just from vastly different angles of attack. It's not a bad thing at all.
Emily reached out and contacted the Cincinnati Museum Center, and their Paleontology department that we have there and arranged for a local Paleontologist who lives and works here to have a 1 on 1 Zoom call with our 9-year-old daughter, who was starry-eyed... like she was meeting a rock star or a sports star. It was amazing watching the interaction between the two. It was one of the best things I've personally seen take place in a long time from an energy and positivity standpoint.
Abby was enthralled by the topics of discussion and conversation with Mrs. Brenda. She gave Abby a lot to think about, and a lot of great advice about paths for school now and in the future. As well as even avenues of where she could eventually wind up in the end possibly career-wise, and options and choices. Little did Emily or I know, that the University of Cincinnati has one of the largest and most successful Paleontologist programs in the nation, as well as Cincinnati (and the mid-west area), is a hot-bed for successful after-grad careers for paleontologists!
It was so educational for us, and Mrs. Brenda was so kind and nice to Abby. She encouraged her to stay in contact with her via e-mail, every now and then, as well as joining local youth fossil groups (Dry-dredgers).
Emily is absolutely the best.
